Maddie (Tika Sumpter) reminds Sonic that he agreed to go fishing with Tom (James Marsden). Sonic returns home to Green Hills where he still lives with the Wachowskis and Ozzie the dog. Before the truck crashes into a crowd of people, Sonic quickly dismantles the truck and flees before anyone else is hurt. He finds a bag of bombs and throws them out, only for them to blow up inside a garbage truck, and another bomb that he left ends up falling into the sewers and causing an explosion that sends water bursting out. He attempts to foil a truck robbery by kicking the robbers out, but he ends up careening through the streets with little control. In Seattle, Sonic tries out being a superhero, calling himself "Blue Justice". Moments later, Knuckles the echidna (Idris Elba) steps out of the portal and notices Robotnik holding Sonic's (Ben Schwartz) quill, asking him where he got that. Stepping out are three warriors, who soon fall victim to Robotnik's series of traps. He soon thinks he's found the right way to get himself home, as he manages to create a ring portal to another world. In his time trying to find a way back to Earth, he has attempted to make mushroom coffee and has failed miserably. Robotnik/"Eggman" (Jim Carrey) has been stranded for a while. Sonic says "Way past cool," a catchphrase coined by various versions of him in American media in the 90s.On the Mushroom Planet, Dr.Robotnik says "I! HATE! THAT! HEDGEHOG!", a phrase various versions of Robotnik in American media in the 90s would scream in anger.Robotnik states his middle name is Gerald in reference to his grandfather in the video game series, Gerald Robotnik. The ending of the first film's novelization is retconned, with Commander Walters being the one who gave Tom and Maddie the government radio receiver.Sonic's world is referred to as Mobius, a term used in various American media in the 90s as the name of the planet Sonic lived on.The phrase " Gotta go fast!" in the blurb is a reference to the English intro for the anime series Sonic X featuring the song of the same name.Unlike the novelization for the first film, the post-credits scene with Shadow the Hedgehog is omitted.Sonic reassembles the Master Emerald instead of Knuckles.Super Sonic proves himself to be the same by doing an armpit fart instead of summoning chili dogs.Super Sonic dodges the Giant Eggman Robot's fists as opposed to blocking and destroying them.Tails also does not break into the cockpit of the Giant Eggman Robot, leaving Knuckles to do this himself.In the film, he only creates holograms of himself. Tails uses the Miles Electric to create holograms of himself, Sonic, and Knuckles to distract Robotnik.Sonic manages to damage the Giant Eggman Robot with its missile, only for it to rebuild itself.Likewise, Maddie holds Commander Walters at gun point in her place. Rachel does not help Maddie free Sonic, Tails, and Tom.A majority of the scenes in Hawaii have been removed, leaving only the wedding ceremony and Maddie freeing Sonic, Tails, and Tom.Robotnik calls the Mean Bean Café instead of texting Agent Stone.Sonic's world is referred to as Mobius while in the film it is left unnamed.After cutting the power at the Wachowski's house, Robotnik appears on the TV, while in the film the TV only showed static.Tom does not call to check on Sonic after he leaves for Hawaii.Tails encounters Wade while stealing the police cruiser.The novel states Tails used his last Ring to get to Earth, while in the film this is left ambiguous.Sonic's fight with the robbers stealing the bank truck is depicted first before talking about Robotnik on the Mushroom Planet.However, in the actual film series, the quill presumably fell off Sonic during one of his runs, and was found by Tom Wachowski, as shown during the first film. It is stated in the book that Robotnik plucked the energized quill from Sonic's hide.This does not occur in the movie but a similar deleted scene from the film plays out like this. After eating a purple fungi, he regains his intelligence. Robotnik is seen in a mentally ill and insane state.
